Get Your Spirulina On!

As some of you know, I've recently taken up a college course on Clinical Nutrition so that I can become a certified nutritionist and diet advisor. It's been crazy getting my head back into the books but surprisingly not as draining as I expected. Thats because I've become OBSESSED with everything I'm learning so far!

I decided to research more in depth about superfoods and what makes each one so supremely beneficial and one of the first ones that I came across was the blue-green algae called Spirulina. I'd sort of heard of it before but didn't know much. Now I must say I'm an instant fan. When I first saw what it looked like I was a little skeptical about the taste but to be completely honest, it wasn't bad at all when added to a fruit smoothie. I add 2 teaspoons and it makes me feel fresh and vibrant all day long. I bought my Spirulina powder (only £11 or $15 for a good amount) at a vitamin shop but it's also available at health food shops like Whole Foods. Make sure you buy an organic powder that doesn't have any additives or filler in order to reap full benefits. Here's a quick breakdown of what's in it for you:

- High in protein and more nutrients than any other plant, herb, or grain.

- Easy to digest

- It has the richest supply of beta carotene (an antioxidant, anti-cancer and healthy eyes power nutrient) than any other food.

- Promotes weight loss, digestive tract health, immunity, anti-aging and stamina among other things.

- Fights free radicals and removes toxins from the body

Now, if thats not enough to convince you to give it a try, here are my super easy smoothie recipes for Spirulina! Just one a day is all you need!
